A. In the past decades the price of high performance desktop PC's has dropped significantly. These machines that were once selling for $5,000+ can now be purchased with the same performance capabilities for under $1,000. This specific PC stood out because at the time it was the most bang for the buck. According to Google stores this PC can be purchased from $608.95-$669, during Cyber Monday I managed to get my hands on it for $579.99.
B. This is a performance and or a gaming computer. In comparison to standard desktops, this system has significantly more powerful than your average entertainment desktop. These types of computers can vary in specs but the specific model I am reviewing today features these basic specs:
- Processor
- AMD FX-8320 3.5 GHz
- Processor Main Features
- 64 bit 8-Core Processor
- Cache Per Processor
- 8MB L3 Cache
- Memory
- 8 GB DDR3 1600
- Hard Drive
- 1 TB SATA II
- Optical Drive
- 24X DL DVD+/-RW Drive
- Graphics
- NVIDIA Geforce GTX 750 2 GB
- Ethernet
- Gigabit Ethernet
- Power Supply
- 400W
- Case
- NZXT Source 220 W/ Window
- Operating System
- Windows 8.1 64-Bit
- While some people would argue that the 8GB RAM is too little, I've personally have not found it to be a problem. It is still capable of handling a running computer game, browser, and multiple other applications being open at the same time. Down the road as applications start using more memory, this system has another 3 RAM memory slots available that has the expansion capability of 32GB.
- One of the most incredible parts of this system is the processor which is a 64-bit 8 core processor at 3.5 GHZ. It is a fantastic high speed chip. The graphics card is 2GB NVIDIA Geforce, it is sufficient for today but will probably need a replacement in one to two years to stay up to speed with the future market.
- The storage space on the hard drive is about 1 terabyte, for today's gamer it is not necessarily huge but this PC does offer an external hard drive connector. This system also has the ability to stay remarkably cold at all times. It is almost like an air conditioner. There is 1 large cooling fan in the rear above the graphics card, 2 cooling fans in the front, and also a small cooling fan for the motherboard.
Personal option is that they have more hard drive space but have weaker or not as high quality processors. Note these other PC's are significantly more expensive as well.
My overall grade to the iBUYPOWER NE654X would be a B+, mostly for value and performance. I have not run into any quality issues and windows 8 remains bad.
